Smart String Recommendations
They don’t make many non-addressable DIY LED strings. I recommend using addressable strings and then using the controller to make them all one color at a time if that’s your goal. This way, you can make addressable light shows later on if you want. I usually recommend 12V strings. They make power injection easier. For shorter runs, 5V strings are fine. You will need some type of controller chip for flashing WLED, or some other library, to control your lights. I recommend NodeMCU boards. Here are the ones that I recommend:

Power Supply Recommendations
You’ll also need a power supply for lights and for your controller board. Remember, get a 12V power supply for 12V lights and a 5V power supply for 5V lights. Also, make sure you get a power supply that has enough power for the number of lights you’re using. Here are a variety of power supplies that should suit your needs.
Additional Supplies For Your LED Strings
Strings, controller chips, and power supplies are the basics, but there are a few other things you might want or need. For example, you might need a case for a controller chip, or a 12V to 5V step-down converter to power 12V lights and 5V controller chips from the same power supply. You might also need some wires to run power injection, or you may need jumper wires for the NodeMCU boards. Also, wire strippers, barrel connectors, and a soldering kit always come in handy.
