There are many uses for surveillance cameras and webcams these days. Everything from starting a YouTube channel, participating in Zoom meetings, and surveillance of your home can be done with IP and webcams. Here are the ones I use and recommend, along with accessories like mics, teleprompters, and more.

I use a couple of these cameras in my ZoneMinder surveillance system. They’ve held up well for years outdoors.

I have this camera outdoors in the elements, and it is sturdy and works well. It’s on battery power and the battery last 6 months+.

This video doorbell works well with ZoneMinder systems. It is basically a clone of the Hikvision DS-HD1 which also works with ZoneMinder.


This is the primary webcam I use for basic recordings and video conferencing. It works really well, even with my Linux system.

This is probably the most popular webcam out there. I still have mine and use it as a secondary camera for different angles. Works great!

If you’re looking to step up to a 4K webcam, this is your camera. Works well across multiple platforms, including Linux.


This is a top-rated microphone for gaming, podcasting, video conferencing, and YouTube videos.

I use this one for Zoom and other calls from my computer. Although less than the Blue Yeti, some rate its sound quality as better.

This lavalier microphone is inexpensive but is terrific. Works with my phone and my PC. And works for two people at once.


A sturdy tabletop tripod that works with webcams, phones, and high-end vlogging cameras.

An inexpensive but highly-rated tripod that comes with a case so you can take it on the go.

Selfie stick and tabletop tripod combo that also comes with a Bluetooth remote camera control


The teleprompter I currently use is discontinued, but this one is very similar.

A sturdy and portable green screen that easily collapses out of the way for storage.

Inexpensive lighting that works great for video conferencing and recording videos. Lots of adjustments are available for the kind of light they product.
