Let me cut to the chase. The EAP 225 V3 is an extremely affordable access point for improving the Wifi in your home. And if you want a little more speed at a little more cost, get the EAP 245 V3. The EAP 245 has 3&#215;3 5Ghz for 1300Mbps max rate<\/li><li>Supports MU-MIMO<\/li><li>128MB of RAM, 8MB Flash<\/li><li>802.3af and Passive PoE support<\/li><li>1 Gigabit POE Ethernet port (EAP245 has an additional port)<\/li><li>VLAN management<\/li><li>Access control lists<\/li><li>Web management<\/li><li>Software controller management<\/li><li>Cloud access*<\/li><li>Rate limiting*<\/li><li>Load balancing*<\/li><li>Band steering*<\/li><li>Client connection statistics*<\/li><li>Captive portal*<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>*You must use the free Omada software controller to access these features<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"differences-from-eap-225-245-v2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Differences_from_EAP_225245_v2\"><\/span>Differences from EAP 225\/245 v2<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three main differences from the EAP 225 v2:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>The v3s have a different look and feel and come with 802.3af and passive PoE support<\/li><li>They have slightly faster 2.4Ghz Antennas (450Mbps as compared with the v2&#8217;s 300Mbps)<\/li><li>They support MU-MIMO<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/EAP225v3outofbox2-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/EAP225v3outofbox2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/EAP225v3outofbox2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/EAP225v3outofbox2-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/EAP225v3outofbox2.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>These differences add up to simpler installs if you want to use PoE, as well as faster speeds for 2.4Ghz connections and potentially faster speeds for 5Ghz connections through MU-MIMO (your connecting devices have to support it). Multi-user, multiple <g class=\"gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar multiReplace\" id=\"5\" data-gr-id=\"5\">input<\/g>, multiple output (or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/242793\/what-is-mu-mimo-and-do-i-need-it-on-my-router\/\">MU-MIMO<\/a>) improves performance when multiple devices are accessing a wireless network at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"why-i-recommend-it\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_I_recommend_it\"><\/span>Why I recommend it<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I wrote a lot about what I like in the EAP 225\/245 v2 review and all of that still stands. The main reasons are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"good-speed-and-stability-and-range\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Good_speed_and_stability_and_range\"><\/span>Good speed and stability and range<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This device does slightly increase the max theoretical speed for 2.4Ghz clients as mentioned above. In my tests, with this access point loaded with over 20 devices, I experienced good speeds and never a dropped connection. Some of these devices include always streaming IP cameras. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smallnetbuilder.com\/wireless\/wireless-reviews\/33201-tp-link-eap225v3-ac1350-wireless-mu-mimo-gigabit-ceiling-mount-access-point-reviewed\">Smallnetbuilder&#8217;s review<\/a> contains performance charts (at the bottom) if you want more statistics about how well this AP performs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of these APs easily covers 1250 square feet of space with the 2.4Ghz signal. The 5Ghz signal does show weakness in a few places over that distance, but I have an AP on each floor and each side of the house and everything is covered well for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz signals. <a href=\"http:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/5-steps-smarthome\/#Step_1_Make_Sure_You_Have_Solid_Wifi_Throughout_Your_Home\">I need great Wifi for my smarthome!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<span style=\"--tl-form-height-m:559.425px;--tl-form-height-t:374.725px;--tl-form-height-d:374.725px;\" class=\"tl-placeholder-f-type-shortcode_3565 tl-preload-form\"><span><\/span><\/span>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"omada-controller\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Omada_controller\"><\/span>Omada controller<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Omada Controller is the free gem that unlocks the full potential of the EAP 225\/245 V3s. It runs on Linux (yay!) and Windows and is easy to install. My favorite features it adds are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Captive Portal &#8211; This allows a much better experience and management of guests connecting to your network.<\/li><li>Allows for seamless wireless roaming between APs.<\/li><li>Allows for cloud access to the APs via an app.<\/li><li>Centralized configuration and monitoring &#8211; I have multiple access points, but I can manage their settings, see what clients are connected,  signal strengths, and even block and reconnect clients from one central interface for all APs.<\/li><li>Access Control Lists (ACLS) &#8211; With ACLs, I can set up rules for which devices can connect to each other, which allows me to greatly enhance my<a href=\"http:\/\/hometechhacker.com\/protect-network-iot-device-hacking\/\"> Internet of Things (IoT) device security<\/a>.<\/li><li>Easily set up multiple SSIDs (wifi networks) across all the access points. For example, I have a guest network, an IOT only network, and a regular network that all have different bandwidth (rate-limiting) and security settings. I don&#8217;t have to worry about setting these up the same in each AP. The Omada controller takes care of it for me.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s easier to see the power than to read about it. Here is a video about TP-Link controller setup. It gives a good overview of the use cases and shows you the interface and capabilities of the Omada controller at the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TP-Link EAP Installation and Configuration Guide\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TpqLUCQTF10?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you aren&#8217;t interested in running the Omada controller on your own hardware, you can also purchase the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/31BUWXF\">TP-Link OC200<\/a>. This dedicated appliance does all the same things the Omada controller does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"great-price\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Great_price\"><\/span>Great price<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Price is what really drew me to the TP-Link EAPs. The V3s are a bit more expensive than the V2s were, but the features are worth it. They are more affordable options than competitors like <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Yk8bKL\">Ubiquiti&#8217;s Unifi AP<\/a> or  <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2CxnwPa\">Linksys&#8217; AC1200 AP.<\/a> Those AP&#8217;s cost over $100, while the TP-Link EAP 225 v3 can be found under $70!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"final-thoughts\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Final_Thoughts\"><\/span>Final Thoughts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>TP-Link&#8217;s EAP 225 v3 is a good upgrade over its great predecessor, the V2. It adds MU-MIMO, POE, and speed in a more modern package while retaining all the great features it had before. The price is great, and I can&#8217;t recommend it more highly.
