Questions and Answers

  1. Why did you start this site? I started this site to help you! I have consulted with friends, family, and coworkers on home technology projects and gadgets for years. They’ve encouraged me to share valuable lessons and insights with others.

  2. What will I get out of this site?

Help, insight, and more help. Valuable how-tos, reviews of products you may be considering, answers to home technology questions you have been asking. Contact me and let me know what you want me to write about or what products and services you are interested in.

  3. Why should I listen to you?

I have spent most of my 25-year career in IT. I’ve been a help desk technician, developer, project manager, business analyst, IT director, and author.  These days I’m far from doing hands-on technical work at my job. I get more technical at home than I do at work. Over the years I’ve designed and redesigned home network infrastructures, installed security and surveillance systems, built computers and routers, and built multimedia distribution systems. I’ve hacked together various home technologies to work in ways that keep families safe, productive, and entertained. I will use this experience, combined with my general knowledge of technology, to provide you with information and solutions to your home technology problems. Although I don’t claim to be an expert on all the technology and topics I cover, I will try to never lead you astray. I provide commentary from the perspective of a do-it-yourself home IT person. I also have experience as a college instructor teaching technology and business courses to undergrad and graduate students. This experience helps me to help you! Also, others have decided I’m worth listening to!

  4. Who are you?

My real name is Marlon. I promise I’m an honest and upstanding human :).  In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing sports, hacking together various technologies, and helping others to do so. I am a husband and a father of two boys who I enjoy teaching (and learning from!). I’m a positive but relaxed guy who tells it as I see it – I hope you get something from it. If you’d like to learn more about me, check out my press kit or author site.

  5. Are there other authors?

Yes. Although I am the primary author, occasionally I publish posts from guest authors.

  6. What tools did you use to create this site?

You can learn about the tools I used to create this site (and receive discounts on these tools) by visiting my  “What this blog is made of” page.
